2011 NEWNC Election Results

Congratulations to the new elected councilors for the 2011 North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council! The NEWNC election was held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 10am-2pm at the Nazzaro Community Center. There were 9 candidates running for 6 open seats. Here are the final vote counts:

The top six candidates will each serve a two-year term on the neighborhood council. A total of 203 North End / Waterfront residents voted in the election. Serving on this year's election committee were councilors not up for re-election, Donna Freni, Marie Simboli and Anne Devlin Tagliaferro.

The 2011-2012 NEWNC will have up to 12 members including the 6 candidates above that received the most votes and those with one year remaining in their term (Donna Freni, Ryan Kenny, Marie Simboli, Anne Devlin Tagliaferro and Giancarlo Tiberi). The new council has the option to fill the vacant spot held by the late Mario Alfano or to leave it open until next year.

The next NEWNC meeting is Monday, June 13, 2011, 7:00 pm at the Nazzaro Center 30 N. Bennet St. NEWNC meetings are open to the public. More information at www.NEWNCBoston.org.

Ballot for NEWNC May 14, 2011 Election

The final ballot has been set for the 2011 North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council election, scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2011, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet St. There are nine candidates running for six open seats on NEWNC, each with a 2-year term. All North End / Waterfront residents may vote for up to six candidates.

A Candidates’ Night will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011, 7:00 pm at the monthly NEWNC meeting at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet St. Each candidate will be given an opportunity to introduce themselves to the community. All NEWNC meetings are open to the public.

Who can vote?

Residents of the North End/Waterfront community who are 18 years or older as of the election. The area includes Precincts 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Ward 3 and the Waterfront Area’s Precinct 6 (Harbor Towers and Rowes Wharf).
 
A resident of North End/Waterfront community is  anyone who appears on the City of Boston’s most recent census list or anyone who does not appear on the most recent census list but can produce adequate proof of residency. At a minimum, individuals who do not appear on the most recent census must produce at least one form of identification with a photograph, address within the North End/Waterfront community, and date of birth (unless age is not a question).  Election officers at the polling location shall decide the sufficiency of the proof of residency.

The NEWNC election poll will be open for voting on Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet St.

NEWNC 2011 Election & Nomination Information

The North End Waterfront Neighborhood Council’s 2011 Elections will be held on Saturday, May 14th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet Street.

 

Nomination papers will be available to potential candidates beginning Monday night April 11th at 7 p.m. at the Nazzaro Center.  Nomination papers must be returned to the Nazzaro Center by Friday May 6th at 5:00 p.m.

 

All candidates must be residents of the North End/Waterfront community who are 18 years or older as of May 19th.

 

A resident of North End/Waterfront community is  anyone who appears on the City of Boston’s most recent census list or anyone who does not appear on the most recent census list but can produce adequate proof of residency. Results for May 15, 2010 NEWNC Election

The results are in for the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) election that was held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Nazzaro Community Center. There were 8 candidates running for 6 seats. There were 288 North End/Waterfront residents that voted in the election.

Vote Tally - 288 Total Ballots

1. 162 votes - Marie Simboli, 61 Prince St.
2. 142 votes - Anne Devlin Tagliaferro, 63 Atlantic Ave.
3. 107 votes - Giancarlo Tiberi, 357 Commercial St.
4. 98 votes - Ryan Kenny, 10 Thacher St.
5. 94 votes - Mario Alfano, 63 Atlantic Ave.
6. 88 votes - Donna Freni, 85 E. India Row

7. 85 votes - Philip Frattaroli, 8 Harris St.
8. 73 votes - Bill Lane, 10 Thacher St.

The top six candidates will each receive 2 year terms on the neighborhood council. The other members of the council that were not up for re-election and will serve the second year of their term include: Luciana Burdi, David Marx, Jon Sproul, Jorge Mendoza and Stephen Passacantilli.

According to NEWNC by-laws, the 12th seat, formerly held by the late Bobby DeCristoforo, may be filled from the other candidates for a 1-year term or it may be left vacant. Such an appointment is at the discretion of the council and requires a 2/3rd vote of the council members. This decision and officer selections will be made at the June meeting.

The next NEWNC meeting is Monday, June 14 at 7:00pm at the Nazzaro Center.

Candidates For May 15, 2010 NEWNC Election

The following candidates have filed nomination papers and will appear on the ballot for the upcoming election for the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council. The election will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 10:00 am through 2:00 pm at the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 N. Bennet St. The ballot order has been randomly selected.

NEWNC Nomination Papers Now Available

Nominations forms will be available starting Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Nazzaro Center front desk. Signatures from 25 residents in the North End/Waterfront are required to be included on the ballot. Any North End/Waterfront resident is eligible to run for a council seat. There are six spots open for election out of the 12 council seats. Each term is for 2 years.

The deadline to turn in completed nomination papers is May 6, 2010 at 5pm at the Nazzaro Center desk.

Candidates will have an opportunity to speak at the May 10, 2010 monthly NEWNC meeting (7pm, Nazzaro Center).
